We blew through the 2018 magnums of this at $500. But then it was the only 100-point SuperTuscan of this great vintage for Vinous. (Above the $800 Masseto, for instance.)
But Falstaff rates these two vintages even higher…indeed they tie for the best Caberlots ever!
Of the 2016 they say:
Clear ruby violet with black core. Smells of freshly crushed pepper and cardamom, some ivy and in the background a lot of clove, dark berry. Wild and hearty on the palate, shows exceedingly lively, powerful, dense tannin, well integrated, very individual wine with wild spice.
