2018 Domaine Collotte Marsannay Le Clos de Jeu

A great vintage for the finest wine of Marsannay. The Clos de Jeu, where Collotte has 50-year-old vines, shares the same exposition and soils as several Gevrey grand crus, as well as Clos Saint-Jacques, the supreme Gevrey premier cru.

No press yet (and given the scale here there may never be). But previous vintages have outstanding scores and this 2018 may be the most beautiful and complete yet.

I guess I’ll quote Dunnuck’s 92-point review for the 2016, the only vintage he has reviewed:

Deeply colored, the 2016 Marsannay Le Clos de Jeu comes from softer limestone soils and vines averaging 50 years in age. Brought up in just 25% new French oak, it offers outstanding notes of both red and black fruits, forest floor, and crushed flowers. With a deep, medium-bodied, seamless texture, perfectly integrated acidity, and building tannins, yet with nothing out of place, it shows the purity and classical style of the vintage to a T. Give it a few years and enjoy over the following decade.

Again, this has the quality and style of a Gevrey premier cru at a fraction the price.
