NOBODY but Marietta would ever dream of putting material like this into a $25 blend. (Or even their Gibson Block Syrah from this same vineyard at only $45.) And the rest is also organically farmed Petite Sirah, Grenache and a touch of Viognier from Marietta’s historic Angeli and Yorkville highlands vineyards.
Again, this is a Parker 95 (the first for a California wine at this price since 1994!):
The 2018 Christo is made up of 60% Syrah, 24% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah and 4% Viognier. Vibrant ruby-purple in color, the nose offers pure scents of crushed red, black and blue berries, tobacco, violets, tar and smoked meats. The palate is full-bodied and packed full of perfectly ripe, juicy fruit, with a grainy frame and loads of uplift on the finish.
“Christo” is in fact what Marietta (his great aunt) calls owner/winemaker Chris Bilbro.
