As Matt Kramer explains:
Trefethen was catapulted to fame when its 1976 Chardonnay placed first in the widely reported Gault-Millau Grand Marathon des Vins du Monde in 1979. Since then, Trefethen has come to be (rightly) associated with Chardonnay, which indeed does well in Trefethen’s Oak Knoll vineyard.
This 2019 vintage has a slew of outstanding reviews, and the winery says:
Aromas of pineapple, apple, and Meyer lemon are layered with orange peel and pear notes. It’s full-bodied, structured, and balanced with fresh acidity. Nuances of crème brûlée and vanilla lead to a smooth and lengthy finish.
And only 13.2% alcohol.
