With some of the steepest, most northerly vineyards in Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, Le Vigne di Alice, focused on true (even throwback) brut Prosecco from heritage grapes. They’ve been a sommeliers’ favorite for years.

In particular, the Tajad (or “blend”) is a Prosecco of unusual character and style. It isn’t labelled “Prosecco,” as it has only 20% Glera (compared to the 80% minimum requirement), along with 40% each of the old varieties Boschera and Verdiso.

The vines are old, very low yielding and hand harvested. And the dosage is a very low 4 to 6 g/l.

Inspired by memories of her grandmother’s tavern or osteria, where conviviality and wines like A Fondo and Tajad followed, Cinzia Canzian started

Here are a few reviews from Vivino, where this enjoys a four-star average rating:

Rich taste, slightly fruity and not too many bubbles. A pleasant surprise for an Italian Spumante, that could easily compete with some champagne.

Pale lemon in color with lots of tiny bubbles. Pear, apple and toasty nose. Medium acidity. Dry and delicious with flavors or tart apple. Lemon-lime and green pear.

Pale lemon in color. Citrus, green apple, pear, and peach. Dry, medium to high acidity, medium alcohol, medium bodied and flavor intensity. Green apple and pear on the body. Medium finish. Very good quality of wine.

Serious Prosecco for a song.
