SO seamless now, I can’t decide if this one is more about complexity, or about its velvety/delicious texture or about its highly nuanced expression of terroir, cepage, vintage and winemaking skill.
What I really love here is that the pronounced “tarry” element this had as a young wine has fully integrated into almost a background note. It’s still there – and helps to mark this still as a classic Stellenbosch red. But it’s now entirely unobtrusive – and really quite captivating.
THIS is why so many people age wines.
It’s just very few of them who do so by accident…and then rather than charge a premium actually give a discount for it!
South African wine lovers, classicists and lovers of (rare) mature wine bargains, do not miss this one!
