Hill Estate is a fourth-generation winegrower who supplies many of Napa’s top wineries, and who recently decided to bottle some of their finest fruit themselves. (An increasingly familiar story.) Doug Hill, in fact, met their winemaker, veteran Alison Green Doran (one of California’s first women winemakers, and one of the few remaining proteges of the great Andre Tchelitscheff), at his client Lewis Cellars.
As Suckling says, this is not only an extremely high-quality Napa blend; it’s an unusually beautiful and ravishing one:
A very balanced and layered red with beautiful raspberry, currant and dark-chocolate undertones. It’s medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and ripe, silky tannins. Gorgeous finish.
