This is very rich and flavorful with lots of wood, vanilla character. Full body, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Needs a year or two to come together.
I’d have to say that it’s come together nicely – with both elegance and Italian character emerging. (In fact, we tried this beside a very nice $60 red from Famiglia Cotarella and liked this better.)
Is it worth its normal $25 to $30 price? Certainly, it is in the context of quality Italian Merlots (and reds). In fact, this could easily be mistaken for the $65 Montiano.
But at only $14.99 – THE best price anywhere – there’s no doubt about it.
The Cotarella’s, by the way, seem to offering this in only the most successful vintages: so far only 2015 and 2018.
