What astonishes me most about these wines is how utterly distinctive, terroir specific and different from each other they are. Schaal’s Sommerberg, from very old vines on an incredibly steep 45-degree slope by Boxler’s Sommerberg, is always his most elegant, perfumed and pure fruit Riesling…but in 2015 these qualities are amplified.
The aromatics of this 2015 are simply amazing…it literally blasts up out of the glass. And smells – and tastes – delicious. If you want to convert someone who says they don’t like Riesling, here’s your wine!
