Newton is one of only 22 California wineries profiled in Parker’s book “The World’s Greatest Wine Estates.” And this, their top 2016 Cabernet is, with 98 points from Suckling, their top-rated wine ever.

Suckling says:

A very intense, perfectly ripe and seamless cabernet that delivers a wealth of dark berries, blue fruits ad blackberry on the nose with attractively integrated oak spice, earth, black truffle and violet-like perfume. The palate has an extraordinary array of fine, layered tannins and a long fresh and alluringly succulent finish that holds fresh and long. Superb cabernet. Drink or hold.

This is $210 at the winery (and more in California stores), and the lowest NC price is $179.99.

By the way, one of my favorite wine stories involves Su Hua Newton. She was dining at the white house and seated next to President Nixon when she noticed he was drinking Chateau Margaux, but serving everyone else much cheaper stuff. When she pointed this out, Nixon gave her the Margaux, figuring she merited it, as she alone knew the difference.
