The winery says:
The 2016 Purple Heart wine is crafted from hand-selected lots of pristine Sonoma County fruit, with both Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley vineyards figuring prominently. This medium-bodied offering opens with bright aromas of raspberries and cedar that precede richly textured notes of dark fruit and black currant on the palate. The wine’s finely balanced tannins give it a long, velvety mouthfeel with hints of caramelized brown sugar lingering through the finish.
The International Wine Report says:
The 2016 Purple Heart Red is composed of 68% Merlot, 14% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 8% Malbec. It opens to aromas of black raspberries and dark cherries which are woven together with hints of spices, cigar box, licorice and toasted oak. On the palate this medium-bodied red possesses a velvety texture and displays a nice core of red/dark fruit and sweet spice flavors that expand through the finish. While this is certainly approachable today, it should also continue to evolve nicely over the next year or two.
