From the only block of ancient vines Casarena still possesses (they replanted the others, but this was too special), and one of the great Cabernets of South America…period.
Argentine Specialist and MW Tim Atkins gives this 94 points, saying:
Produced from one of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon blocks in Agrelo - grown on a pergola to boot - this is a complex, layered, dried herb, mint and blackcurrant-like red with fine tannins, notes of graphite and pyrazine and a long, mineral-edged finish. Superb.
Pyrazine, by the way, is a chemical compound formed in roasted meats, among other things. It tastes (and smells) really good!
