Lacroix is named for the stone cross at the entrance to Chateau Teyssier, the home property in Saint-Emilion of international winemaking star Jonathan Malthus. He sources this from one of the highest altitude, perfectly exposed and lowest yielding vineyards in the Entre-Deux-Mers, on the slopes of the Butte de Launay.
Its British agent describes this well:
Another wine from Jonathan Maltus’ stable - this Merlot dominant Bordeaux blend is easy going in style with a rich and juicy dark fruited nose - black plums (slightly baked), cassis, black cherries, cedar and a hint of vanilla and earth.
On the palate, it’s very straightforward and smooth with slightly more red fruits, almost like a mixed red berry compote. There is a good amount of acidity and supple tannins which brings it all together nicely.
A bit lighter than the Vieux Manoir – but oh so classy, and as versatile as Bordeaux Superieur gets.
