British wine writer Jamie Good gave this 95 points (just a point behind the
legendary 1988 Chave Hermitage – and above the legendary 2021 Jamet Cote-Rotie), saying:
This is very floral with sweet black cherries. Exotic with some subtle cured meat notes. Fresh and vivid with nice acidity. This is really fine with lovely presence and focus.
This 2018 is also the only vintage deemed a “w.o.w” by DrinkRhone, their special designation for a “wine one wants.”
Also top ratings for Vinous:
Opaque ruby. Smoke- and spice-accented dark berries and a hint of licorice on the lively nose. Subtly sweet blackberry and cherry flavors show very good clarity and energy and pick up a suave floral quality with aeration. Displays fine definition and strong, spicy lift on the persistent, gently tannic finish, which leaves lingering cherry and exotic spice notes behind.
