A previous vintage was named “the World’s Best Pinot Grigio” in a tasting of 200 top wines from seven different countries (including top $100 Grand Cru Alsatian Pinot Gris from the same grape). The German wine magazine Falstaff agrees, naming this their #1 Pinot Grigio of the year. And Vinous has extolled this wine’s terrific value at $40! This extraordinary 2018 is simply the richest and most impressive vintage to date. (And we’ve sold this in every vintage since 2011.)
Fittingly, the winery chose this super-rich, succulent and fully textured vintage to switch to a Burgundy-shaped bottle.
Suckling rates this 93 points, saying:
Lots of tropical fruit on the nose with papaya and sliced mango, as well as citrus. Full body, creamy texture and an excellent, bright finish. Single vineyard.
This is, by the way, from a steep mountain vineyard with vines over 80 years old and aged partly in older oak – which accounts for the almost white Burgundy-like concentration, rich texture and seriousness.
