Nugan is one of the top small producers of the McLaren Vale, and this remarkable single-vineyard Shiraz outscores even their $150 Matriarch bottling!
97 and a Platinum Medal from Decanter.
Not yet reviewed by the US press, but here’s Vinous on the last vintage they reviewed, the (lesser) 2018:
Opaque ruby. Mineral- and smoke-accented dark berries and vanilla on the deeply perfumed nose, along with a hint of cracked pepper that adds complexity and spiciness. Juicy cherry and black currant flavors reveal an undercurrent of smoky minerality that adds lift and cut. Picks up a suave floral nuance on the impressively long finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins.
A rare McLaren Vale Shiraz with both rich, full, powerful and concentrated flavours and with velvety elegance, suavity and class.
