A 50/50 blend of Syrah and Roriz (Tempranillo), and the top wine in its range from this leading and historic (dating to 1755) Lisbon area producer.
From clay and limestone hillside vineyards, this is – even by Portuguese standards – and incredibly rich and substantial red for the money. But also one with real elegance, complexity and class. As a bonus, delicious red wines don’t get any more food-friendly than this.
I remember tasting this with Kayla and Sallee – and beyond really impressing us (when I thought it would be $25), there was something in the nose that reminded me of a serious red Burgundy. Of course, comparisons don’t get any better than that! And it underscores just how unusually elegant, pure and sophisticated this Portuguese red is.
