Here’s what importer Kimberly Jones says of her spectacular new 2018 release of The Courier. Which she feels may be the best vintage yet:
I am so proud of the 2018. It is the first vintage with Jean Roger Calvet as winemaker.
He is the highly respected partner of Jean-Luc Thunevin (of Chateau Valandraud in St Emilion) in Maury’s premiere winery.
My Courier 2018 Rouge is an estate blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan from my two (total 5.2 ha) vineyards I purchased in 2006. The estate vines range in age 85 – 105 years old and produce only ¼ ton an acre.
And Lisa Perrotti-Brown, in the Wine Independent:
The 2018 Rouge, 70% Old Vine Grenache and 30% Old Vine Carignan, is medium garnet in color. It springs from the glass with notes of plum preserves and blueberry pie followed by hints of Indian spices, unsmoked cigars, and sandalwood. The full-bodied palate is rich and plush, with load of anise sparks giving shimmer to the decadent black fruits, finishing long and peppery.
