The Red Hills area of Lake County is rapidly becoming the go to area for top Napa winemakers who want to make high-quality but still reasonable wines. Aerena’a vineyard, at 2400 feet, is right by those of Beckstoffer and Obsidian Ridge. The vineyards are so loaded with obsidian here that growers can’t drive tractors in them for fear they’d slice up their tires.
With Aaron Potts’ brilliant winemaking, this is at least of the quality of Obsidian Ridge – one of our most popular and favorite $30 Cabernets. (Actually, it’s now $35.) And certainly as rich, polished and impressive a California Cabernet as you’ll find at anywhere near $21.99.
