Vinous actually rated this tiny-production jewel of a Verdicchio even higher than the 2019 Colestefano gushed over!
They said:
The 2019 Verdicchio di Matelica Petraraore is more floral than fruity and packed full of crushed stone minerality. This impresses with a contrast of textures, seeming almost weighty and oily at times, yet with a salty acid twang that keeps the expression fresh and lively. A mix of nectarine and pear lingers through the finale, making for an excellent punctuation to such a tension-filled expression. The 2019 Petrara may be beautiful today, but another year in the cellar should bring out even more of its rocky, savory character.
And I agree: there is even more depth and more of a multi-layered quality to this than even to the Collestefano.
A stunning dry white wine. And a truly stunning bargain.
