As with the Cabernet (if not even more so, as this one is from more expensive vineyards), our price is way too low for this!
Where the Cabernet is unusually structured and serious for Paso Robles, this exquisite Chardonnay is unusually rich (almost creamy-rich), flavorful and delicious for the cooler climate of Santa Maria.
Tate describes this well:
The 2019 has a beautiful light gold color to it. The lively nose has lifted ripe pear and honeydew melon as well as a light lemon custard element. The palate is quite rich and viscous. There is a creaminess that approaches buttery without crossing the line. Due to the cooler area that the grapes are grown in there is ample acid to balance the richness of the wine. There is bright stone fruit on the finish
He's absolutely right: this is a rare Chardonnay that will appeal to both those who love the full-blown style (say Rombauer, Shafer or Pahlmeyer) and those who prefer the more minerally and intense Au Bon Climat or Bien Nacido style.
It’s REALLY high-class stuff!
