Perfectly suited to the clay-limestone terroir, the grape varieties of this vintage find their full expression in this very fine wine, which combines genuine complexity (leather, vanilla, black fruit, eucalyptus, pepper…) with a palate that is both broad and long, powerful yet refined, supported by velvety tannins, elegantly extracted. A long, saline, and very fresh finish completes this most harmonious whole.
And Vinous rates it one of the very top Medoc Cru Bourgeois of this great vintage, saying:
The 2019 Campillot offers attractive brambly black fruit on the nose with touches of ash and cedar developing with time. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, well-judged acidity, very harmonious with ample fruit on the satisfying finish. What an excellent Médoc.
Also outstanding for Suckling and the French Verte de Vin.
Both the superb quality of this vineyard in the Northern Medoc and the exceptional winemaking (and serious investment) really shine through here.
