The new 2015 Cherry Pie Pinot Noir is everything a $20 Pinot Noir should be, but rarely is. For one, it s 100% Pinot Noir (unusual at this price). It s also from three single vineyards, including Sonoma's prestigious Rodgers Lane. But the main thing is the taste.
Previous vintages, labeled Cherry Tart, were a bit tart or at least dry and firm. But this 2015 is almost billowy in its perfectly ripe, expansive and utterly delicious flavors. In a way, it reminds me almost of the 2009 Goldschmidt Hilary Cabernet, with the same sort of peacock's tail expansive and caressing flavors.
$20 Pinot Noir just doesn't get more authentic or delicious than this.
