Superstar winemaker Kirk Venge ranks this at the top of list of the great Napa Cabernets he makes.
Indeed, as Venge told Forbes Magazine, he hasn’t been as excited about a new Cabernet release in years. And while his debut 2018 vintage was sensational, this 2019 (now sold out at the winery – which now offers the 2020 at $90, and magnums of this at $190) clearly surpasses it.
Venge says:
In its second release, the 2019 X∙I Cabernet Sauvignon commands attention with bold and structured characteristics that entice all senses. The appearance is impenetrable and inky while the bouquet expresses aromas of dark plums and blackberries. Composed of the five Bordeaux varietals although primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, classic notes of black fruits, smoked herbs, leather, and earth are on full display. Well-structured with balanced tannins, this impeccably made wine will easily age for at least a decade or more.
And the Wine Enthusiast agrees, rating this the best Eleven Eleven XI yet:
Soft and dusty in lush red fruit, with a compelling backbone of acidity, this estate wine is enjoyable in its youth, with approachable tannins and well-integrated oak. Cassis and cherry notes are seasoned in hints of vanilla and baking spice.
