Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Heady ripe black cherry, liquorice and black plum scents waft from the glass with subtlety toasted vanillin oak, fennel and spice notes ensuing. Incredibly rich and lavish, the thick, voluptuously textured palate is saturated with lush blackberry, liquorice, black cherry and black plum fruits which overshadow a back drop of toasty vanillin oak, fennel and spicy pepper characters. The level of toast on the oak appears to have been taken down a notch or two on previous vintages. Magnificent power with velvet smooth tannins and a long decadent aftertaste.
They’re absolutely right. This is as rich, luscious and decadent as ever. But under the stewardship of Sarah and Luke Marquis, this (and all of these) are even more velvety smooth, intelligently oaked and sophisticated.
