The 2019 'Going For Broke' is bursting with freshness and ripe berry fruit. The Zinfandel provides a soft, round, and juicy base for the blend, and the Syrah is deep, spicy and saturated. The Petite Sirah, Grenache, and Mourvedre provide the perfect blend of aromatics: Dark fruit, leather, and the almighty spice rack. The tannins are well-defined and balanced by high natural acidity.
Dunnuck rates this Outstanding, too:
Brambly herbs, plum, framboise, and violet notes emerge from the Paydirt Going For Broke, which is a Zinfandel-dominated blend that includes small amounts of Grenache, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Balanced and medium to full-bodied, with both richness and elegance, it’s a delicious drinker to enjoy over the coming 4-6 years or so.
From ex-Duckhorn winemaker (and now star consultant) Kent Jarman and the brilliant Patrick McNeil of McPrice Meyers – and some of California’s most prestigious vineyards, this is a winning combination.
