A Wine Enthusiast 93 and Editors’ Choice at $50:
This is among the earliest releases of vineyard designates from this iconic site, giving a heads-up preview of what's to come. Spicy, sharp and tightly wound, with a dense mix of blackberry, earth, compost, coffee and high-cacao chocolate, it will take some serious decanting to unpack this wine. The balance is spot-on and the flavors meld beautifully.
Also 93 from Vinous:
Glistening ruby-red. Intensely perfumed cherry and dark berry scents are complemented by suggestions of cocoa powder, baking spices and pungent flowers. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet red and blue fruit flavors that turn livelier as the wine opens up. The berry and floral notes drive a very long, gently chewy finish framed by fine-grained, even tannins.
For a top vintage of Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir, this one is a steal.
