Wine Enthusiast 96 – best Biondi-Santi Rosso ever (and above most of their Brunellos!):
The nose is floral and sweet, but refreshing thanks to clean, balancing aromas of mint and dirt. The palate takes that freshness a step further, to a light, bouncy, almost astringent level. Precocious tannins are young yet dense and supportive, while jubilant acid sings.
Best ever for Jancis Robinson, too:
Real spread of textured, sweet fruit all the way over the palate with real drive and grip on the finish. Admirably long. Really very exciting! Pure, fully ripe Sangiovese – sorry, Brunello. Vigorous and a great balance between fruit and the natural tannin and acidity of the grape. Just glorious! Already a great drink but with enough ripe tannin to go on and on.
She actually rates this equal to the legendary 1971 and 1975 Riservas! And above many others – including great vintages of both the Brunello and the Riserva.
