This one has even higher ratings, including the top Braai rating ever for the Wine Enthusiast, which says:
Sweet oak spice and mocha drizzle lead the decadent nose of this wine, with rich plum and cherry sauce as well as berry preserves at the core of the nose and mouth. It's slightly smooth in feel, with a plush impression and spicy, velvety tannins that continue from the palate to the finish.
What this review reinforces is what the winery is trying to achieve with their Pinotage:
One of our winemakers expressed that to him, Pinotage has often tasted neither like Pinot Noir or Cinsault, its parent grapes. In Braai Pinotage the mission is to create a wine that has intensity but with more delicate aromatics and body than most other bottlings out there.
In other words, this showcases the very best qualities of Pinotage, but without any of the roughness or tarriness that can sometimes make Pinotage less appealing, at least to American consumers.
This one is an absolute beauty – and better than many Pinotages twice or more its price.
It is also, by the way, mainly from higher quality (and more expensive) Stellenbosch fruit.
