The Wine Independent, which rates this equal to Anderson’s old Pahlmeyer Chardonnay, says:
The 2020 Kale David A18 Chardonnay features spicy notions of nutmeg, powdered ginger, and coriander seed, giving way to a tantalizing core of honeydew melon, preserved peaches, and orange blossoms, plus a waft of baking bread. The medium-bodied palate is both elegant and intense, with loads of stone fruit and spicy layers and a refreshing backbone, finishing long and lively.
Anderson says:
The beautifully bright gold appearance is alluring. Pineapple, pear, apricot, and lemon curd are blended with toast, white flowers, and honey on the nose. The medium body palate is simultaneously rich and linear. Additional fruits joining the nose are green apple, kiwi, and lime. Accompanying the fruit are flinty notes of wetstone and chalk. All of this gives way to a medium plus mouthwatering finish of sweet and sour lemon-lime candy. The acid in this wine makes it a natural pairing with seafood and would be exceptional with lobster and clarified butter. Drink now and over the next 10 years.
Anderson only made 131 cases of this, from a very special vineyard owned by Antinori, high atop Atlas Peak.
