The wine is as smart a buy as you’re ever likely to find. Which is true of all high-quality Beaujolais.
This one is a beauty.
What’s more, it really is nice, as advertised, with a bit of a chill on it. (Especially if you’re enjoying it on a warm day outside.) But it’s also nice at a normal temperature. (Not room, but maybe cellar – as you’d serve a nice Pinot Noir.) We tried it both ways. Delicious both ways.
Now, this isn’t your standard purple-colored and commercial style of Beaujolais. (Think Duboeuf.) It’s much more in the very pure, vibrant and surprisingly rich for Beaujolais style we’ve come to expect from the very best small importers. But in a way, it really represents true Beaujolais perhaps even better than the more prestigious cru Beaujolais we sell – as this is just the very essence of pure, irresistibly delicious Beaujolais fruit.
And it’s especially full-flavored to be only 13.5% alcohol.
So yes, this may be “the perfect summer red.” But if you still have any left come Thanksgiving or the Holiday season, you will be VERY glad you do. Because this is a perfect red for pretty much any kind of feast or celebration.
