Again, every vintage of this reviewed by pretty much every critic rates outstanding. How could it not?
Here’s the Wine Enthusiast on the 2019:
Enticing aromas of violet, black-skinned berries and baking spice shape the nose. The full-bodied, easy-drinking palate features juicy black cherry, cranberry jam and white pepper alongside polished tannins. Enjoy through 2026.
Of their great 2020, the winery says:
Deep ruby red with violet edges. Very intense with notes of maraschino cherries and violets. Vigorous and vibrant, lively acidic, fruit forward, long lasting.
This is every bit as exciting as (and often higher rated than, and certainly more aristocratic than) the $45 Barbera from Sandrone. Or surely anybody’s Barbera under $30.
Given who made this, it almost goes without saying, but they pull out all the stops here: very low yields, with a green harvest, fastidious traditional winemaking…the works.
A simply textbook Barbera D’Asti, and one at the highest level.
