The 2020 Panza Cabernet garnered a lot of attention with its Wine Enthusiast 96-point score, their top Cab of the vintage at $75. But they didn’t review this Petite Sirah-based red blend, which is the winery’s real specialty.
Those who have reviewed both, though, rate this red blend even higher.
Indeed, it was “Best in Class” as THE top Napa red blend in the North Coast Wine Challenge, which said:
Substantial blend using petite s[i]rah substance. inky. dark plum, cocoa powder, complex.
And also the Sommeliers Choice Awards, which said:
Lush aromas of currant, black cherry, blackberry, and cocoa notes on nose & palate. The wine is rich and bold on palate with the black fruits shining through. Well-developed wine.
Quixote’s Carl Doumani in his Stags’ Leap Winery has long shown just how extraordinary Petite Sirah can be from this top-tier Stags Leap vineyard. But his Panza takes it to another level. Especially in this, its most successful vintage yet.
