It’s from a legendary vineyard in Oak Knoll, with some of Napa’s oldest Cabernet vines – which originally supplied fruit for Silver Oak Napa, Rubicon and Mondavi Reserve.
Wine writer Karen McNeil rates this 2020 vintage their best ever (rare in this vintage, but when they’re good they can be great), saying:
If you like your Napa Cabernets bold and powerful, Silenus is for you. The wine has big gulping waves of intense cassis and blackberries, plus a formidable structure. Yet Silenus also has precision, purity, and length.
Decanter agrees:
Winemaker Eiji Akaboshi, who has worked in the Peju, Green and Red Vineyard cellars, and Medlock Ames, has fashioned a seductive, classically-styled Napa Cabernet. Fragrant blackberry fruits are laced with beautiful red-leaf tobacco notes, capsicum and dusty minerals. Full-bodied on the attack, with silken blackberry and black cherry fruits, graphite, sandalwood, and sinewy tannins. Long and balanced.
A hugely impressive Napa Valley Cabernet that overdelivers even at its normal $90 price…which is why it sold out everywhere else.
