Winemaker Jon Seccombe is widely regarded in both South Africa and elsewhere as a winemaking genius – producing miniscule quantities of severely allocated wines in the cellar of his friend Chris Alheit (another top South African star.)

This 2020 is the most successful vintage yet of his top red Rhone blend.

Vinous rates it 94, saying:

It’s a little closed on the nose but opens with aeration, offering red berry fruit intermixed with white pepper, clove and wild fennel. The palate is full of crunchy red fruit, superb acidity and tension and reveals a touch of curry leaf on the finish. Yet another great 2020 from Jon Seccombe.

And Atkin:

Featuring the highest-ever amount of Mourvèdre (29%), this is a Grenache-based red with Syrah providing the third component. Sourced from across the Western Cape, it's fresh and sappy, with lots of whole bunch spices, fresh acidity, some meaty undertones and a tangy plum and red berry core. 2021-27

We have 76 bottles here, at the best price anywhere: the average on Wine-Searcher is $60, and it’s up to $149.99!

2020 is the top vintage on CellarTracker, too.

While I realize that with their best-ever scores, the other two wines here are hard to ignore (and don’t ignore them!), this may be the very best buy of all.
