This has to be a leading contender for “World’s best-value Cabernet Sauvignon.” It’s from vines averaging over 50-years-old, which undergo both a green harvest and leaf thinning (to reduce yields and optimize ripeness). It’s then hand-harvested and hand sorted, given a long maceration with four pump overs a day, and aged in all high-quality French oak.

The results are an incredibly serious and complete Cabernet for such a low price.

Vinous rates this 91 points (best Fabre Cabernet Reserva ever), as does Suckling, who says:

Blueberries, blackcurrants, cherries and mint chocolate on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with sleek tannins and fresh acidity. Polished, balanced and savory. Better from 2024.

Fabre says:

Intense red colour. Very good concentration on the nose, with aromas of dark blackberries and cassis fruits. Juicy and fruity on the palate, with hints of coffee and leather from the oak. Full bodied, silky tannins and long finish. Great accompaniment to meats and strong cheeses.

It really is extraordinary that Fabre can offer a pure Cabernet Sauvignon of this pedigree and quality (not to mention all the work they put into it) at such a reasonable price.

The man who was twice named “Argentina’s Greatest Winemaker” has delivered maybe the “World’s Greatest Value Cabernet Sauvignon.”
