You probably know the La Giaretta story already (the young husband and wife team, clad head-to-toe in black leather, did a great tasting here some years ago): a very passionate and perfectionist duo they are, making traditional Amarones like almost no other producer today. Their vines grow in top hillside vineyards and the grapes dry in open window (except when it rains) huts in the valley below.
These are as good as any Amarone at twice or more their prices. Plus, unlike most Amarones, they are more rich and fresh (less pruney), so they are far more versatile with food. Which is especially true in this virtually perfect year.
What’s more, Vivino ranks it #1 among “the top 14 Amarone wines in North Carolina.” And they price it at $45.99 – saying “Good value for the money: similar Amarones cost 75% more.”
Here are a few reviews:
This is a majestic, intense, ethereal wine, with notes of laurel and cherries in alcohol. The extreme balance of all its components makes it suitable for long aging.
Wow! Black cherry, prune, brown sugar, fig, baking spices, & chocolate. Medium-full body. So balanced, layered, and delicious.
Cherry liqueur, plum, violet, cocoa, and spice notes characteristic of the red wine's full, velvety style.
Easily the best Italian red I’ve ever had. What a wonderful, accessible, well rounded red. Fruit forward, complex, with long…long…lingering notes. Ugh, I’m going back tomorrow to get a case. Wow!
Heaven has touched earth with this one! Chocolate, wood, dark dark darker cherry and red fruit. The smell of happiness in a glas. Cold winter evening suddenly turn into happy moments with your loved one! Needless to say: meat, veal and anything bloody. OK Sit back and enjoy the bottle... or two.
This is one of my favorite wines. No matter the year I've never had a bad bottle. Earth and peat-moss on the nose. Nice and smoky up front with lots of dark fruit and some mushroom. Chocolate, cigar box, leather, and earth play through the midranges and it resolves into a nice ling spicy finish. This wine is not for the faint of heart.
From the very first sip this wine was seriously amazing. Maybe one of my favorites. So soft but full of flavor. Top 10 definitely.
Best Amarone in the game.
I guess you can see why this is their top-selling and #1 Amarone.
