Falstaff 99:
Pale greenish yellow, silver glints. Smoky-savoury scents allude to bacon and damp stones, enchantingly mystical, saline nuances, white apple, lime, herbs, and delicately savoury. Firm, elegant, finely nuanced notes of apricot, crisp acidic structure, and persistence superseded by a hint of lime. Possesses ageing potential for years to come.
And Suckling 98:
Very complex, youthful nose with a huge spectrum of aromas, ranging from crisp pear and spring blossoms to a whole garden of herbs. Extremely elegant and silky, this great Wachau gruner veltliner has underplayed power, the wine gliding over the palate into the extremely subtle crushed-rock finish that takes your breath away.
Only 19 bottles here. (If the 2007 Pichler Riesling Achleiten is the best of my experience, the 2014 Pichler Gruner Veltliner Achleiten is Kayla’s all-time favorite.)
