2021 is an especially concentrated vintage here, which was both very long and very cool, yet one of only two vintages here to reach a whopping (especially for Coonawaara) 15% alcohol. The last one to reach 15% earned this 96-point review:
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a deep dark crimson black hue. Alluring aromas of ripe blackcurrants laced with a hint of mint arise from the glass over lightly toasted cedar, a faint hint of tobacco and spice. Rich and weighty the palate is awash with concentrated ripe blackcurrant flavours with some ensuing liquorice, well integrated spicy cedary tobacco characters, a hint of scorched earth and faint mint. A solid robust structure frames the rich opulent fruit whilst the tannins are finely grained. Excellent power and length finishing very long with an aftertaste of blackcurrant, liquorice, spicy vanillin cedar, dark chocolate, a touch of tobacco and mint. A big rich full-bodied Cabernet with plenty of varietal character.
Cellar 6-8 years.
