98 points and “Best Producer” (which a sticker on the bottle proudly proclaims) from Italy’s leading wine writer, Luca Maroni.
Also 96 points from the German site Belvini. (Stingy Germans!) They say:
Its opulent bouquet of sour cherries, black cherries, plums, cherry jam, dried fruit, violets, iris, sassafras (cinnamon tree), toffee, herbs and spices puts the nose in ecstasy. In the mouth, the Tuscan red impresses with the highest concentration, juice & power, the concentrated load of fruit - and at the same time amazes as a silky-smooth palate in perfect harmony. The fruits of the bouquet celebrate a juicy jam session with tangy blood orange, aromatic plum jam, some cola, liquorice and tart chocolate. Wild, gentle and at the same time uncomplicated, the Ser Passo makes a powerful impression.
No wonder we can’t keep this one in stock.
(In fact, I tried a very similar Italian blend made by the same methods recently. Similar, that is, until you consider our wholesale cost on that wine was $50!)
As those of you who snap this up every single time we offer it know, this is just a sensational wine for the money.
