Here’s an incredible bargain from the Veneto (home of Amarone), made like Amarone (appassimento method, where the grapes are dried on wooden racks for months to concentrate their flavors), but from a somewhat different grape blend (Corvina, yes, but also Merlot) – and at a fraction the price.
What’s more, it received a whopping 97-point score from Italian wine writer Luca Maroni! Higher than he rated ANY Brunello or Barolo (many over $100.)
While it lasts…which never seems to be long.
A favorite glass pour in many of Europe’s (and London’s) top restaurants now, and with good reason. It’s a wine that’s both incredibly sumptuous on its own – but also wonderfully versatile with food.
There’s just so much more flavor, concentration and sheer delicious, voluptuous flavor than anyone would ever expect from a wine at this price.
Plus, with much of the richness of Amarone, but very little of its typical pruney qualities, this is perfectly crafted as basically a much richer than usual style of table wine. Which again is why this has been so popular in European restaurants.
And with SO many of you!
