Kevin Morrisey started his wine journey interning for Chateau Petrus. His wine education was then polished under Tony Soter at Etude with a stop at Stags’ Leap. Continuing his vision from Etude Morrisey made the 2021 Hazel & Axe with grapes from Napa, Sonoma and Mendicino. Showcasing bold, dark fruit flavors of blackberry and cassis, harmoniously balanced with subtle oak nuances. Hazel, by the way, is the partners’ grandmother – and the Hazel & Axe line is reserved for wines they feel would make her proud. “Axe” comes from her expression “wield your axe” – by which she meant use your inner strength to always move forward and excel.
Again, this is mainly from prime Napa mountain fruit, and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in all second fill French oak.
