The 2021 vintage of this was brilliant, but this even richer 2022 may well eclipse it.
Only four other stores on Wine-Searcher even list this top Mondavi Cabernet, at up to $65. And again, we offer the lowest price anywhere.
Suckling rates this outstanding, and equal to the 2021, saying:
This offers ripe, generous red and black fruit on a velvety texture of fine-grained tannins. Black cherries, dark plums and blackberries come up in the aroma and then go deeper on the palate. Contains 7% petit verdot, 8% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. Aged in all French barrels, 31% new, which add accents of cinnamon and cedar. Drink now or hold.
In a recent blind tasting, two Masters of Wine actually found this to be more powerful and extracted than Mondavi’s $250 To-Kalon Reserve Cabernet, and capable of aging for 20 to 30 years. But then, it does have a high percentage of To-Kalon fruit, with the next-largest component from their superb Wappo Vineyard in Stags leap.
It also outscored the wonderful 2021 vintage on CellarTracker.
