Best Albe ever now for the Wine Spectator:
A strong graphite aroma introduces this red, along with flavors of cherry, blackberry, violet, juniper and eucalyptus. Juicy and smooth, with a counterpoint of tannins lining the finish. Shows terrific harmony and finesse. Long aftertaste.
And for the Winefront:
A blend of Fossati, La Volta and Coste di Vergne, and sometimes the ability to blend different vineyards gives you more options, and possibly complexity. Tasted at the winery, but also earlier in the year with favourable impressions both times.
Deeper red fruits, spice, orange peel, a little earthy, some perfume like rosehip. Medium to full-bodied, has freshness, a ripe lightly grainy grip to tannin, finishes clean and long. A really good Albe. Distinct, quite open, and already good to drink.
And the Wine Advocate:
The super-versatile and charming G.D. Vajra 2022 Barolo Albe mirrors the personality of a hot, dry vintage that delivers concentrated Nebbiolo flavors of blackcurrant, cherry and rose. The Albe bottling takes its name from the sunrises visible from the high-elevation vineyards used for this blend, with fruit sourced from several sites across Barolo to capture balance and complexity even in warmer years. There are earthy aromas as well and a hint of sweet orange. Darkly ripened fruit leads to solid tannins and rich concentration with enough stuffing to make this a great Barolo for near- or medium-term drinking.
