The winery says:
“Wapisa” is the indigenous Patagonian word for “whale.” Not only do whales frequent the nearby coast of our vineyards, but a local legend talks of a Wapisa that actually lived on land. Our wines, like the Wapisa, are an expression not just of their soils but of the nearby ocean as well.
Aromas of strawberries and fresh raspberries, with notes of rose petals and cherries. On the palate is fresh and delicate, with firm tannins of silky texture.
Suckling rates this 93 points, saying:
Quite a crunchy and expressive pinot noir with plenty of fresh red berries on the medium-bodied palate. Juicy, fresh and firm with fine tannins.
Almost the same thing he says of the Chacra Barda at twice the price:
Crunchy and fresh, full of verve. Transparent and nimble with soft, round tannins and a bright, linear finish.
And consumers on CellarTracker rate it even higher at 95 points – their top Patagonian Pinot ever (above the $90 and $140 ones from Chacra even)!
British wine writer and Master of Wine Tim Atkin rates this outstanding, too, saying “THIS is the new Argentina!”
Again, best price anywhere and not much of it…
This is what serious cool-climate Pinot Noir is all about.
