We’ve had so many wonderful white Burgundy bargains lately, but this one truly stands out.
Sylvain Debord is one of Burgundy’s most talented, experienced and in-demand consultants. He has taken on just a handful of clients…some of Burgundy’s very top domains. At each of these domains, he is allowed his pick of their grapes to produce very small quantities of his own wines – which he does at each of the domains.
We tasted a full range of his wines – and all of them were brilliant. But as wonderful as the $200 to $500 ones from top appellations were, it was his two Bourgogne Blancs that impressed us the most.
This one was a particular favourite. It’s a Coteaux Bourguignons, which means it could be from anywhere. But in fact, it’s from spectacularly placed hillside vineyards above Santenay, St. Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet! And of course, from vineyards farmed by one of the top domains in these prestigious appellations.
Made with the most minimalist approach, and with no oak, it’s incredibly pure, elegant, classy and refined.
Just exactly the kind of white Burgundy we love to drink.
