From a tiny fourth generation producer in the tiny village of Champillon (a premier cru in the Vallee de la Marne), here’s an utterly delicious true Champagne – from higher rated vineyards than almost any of the famous names – for only $30.
I say “Bollinger meets Mumm” because it shares the creamy, yeasty fullness of its neighbor Bollinger, but with the softer, more Chardonnay-driven finesse of a house like Mumm.
Consumers on CellarTracker not only rate it “Outstanding” – but higher than Mumm, Moet, Pol Roger and Veuve Cliquot…and just a half-point behind Bollinger. (Which is fair.)
Needless to say, there is no other negociant Champagne in our market under $40 with this kind of raw material or sheer quality and class.
