The Beau Joie Special Cuvee Brut, with its distinctive copper label, might be taken as all about presentation – kind of like the famous Ace of Spades Champagne. But it’s quite a serious Champagne indeed. (Both much better and much higher rated than the Armand de Brignac at $400. As well as their new $1200 Blanc de Noirs!)
Wine writer Richard Jennings gives it one of his top Champagne scores (he’s a tough critic), saying:
Light yellow color with abundant, steady, tiny bubbles; autolytic, savory, saline, lemon gelee nose; tasty, autolytic, lemon oil, lemon gelee palate with good balancing acidity; medium-plus finish: the Champagne exhibits bottle age and refined Chardonnay grapes; 12.5% alcohol; composition sparling cork. 92+ points
