I’ve been waiting for this one ever since I saw Chuck Wagner’s comment after this small but supremely rich and concentrated harvest: “Some lots taste so good they could be enjoyed without barrel aging."
Which reminds me of the famous wine axiom: “A wine can take as much oak as it doesn’t need.” Or as Jean-Marie Guffens put it: “No wine is over-oaked; it’s just under-wined.”
In other words, this is an incredibly beautiful, opulent and generous Caymus Cabernet that can easily absorb all of the oak Wagner undoubtedly gave it.
A potential all-time Caymus great. Of course, once again, our cost is up and our margins are down on this 2016. Great vintage + Small Vintage = $$$.
So be it. It’s Caymus.
