The winery says:

The carefully selected range of vineyards stretch along the Pacific coastline, defined by picturesque terraces; each is uniquely characterized by rolling hillsides with definitive contours, inspiring our wine’s name.

• SOURCING: The fruit was sourced from a variety of cool climate, coastal vineyards, including Santa Barbara, Sonoma County, Monterey and Santa Ynez.

• HARVEST: The grapes were hand-harvested at night to ensure a consistent cool temperature

TASTING NOTES: This deep scarlet red wine is bursting with lush aromas of blackberry bramble, nutmeg, and hint of caramel. The wine is fresh and exuberant in the mouth, with sumptuous notes of strawberry jam, ripe black cherry, cranberry and warm gingerbread. 2018 Contour Pinot Noir is perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity, velvety tannins and a hint of toasted oak carrying through its long finish. A shining example of all that California Pinot Noir has to offer.

• WINEMAKING: The fruit was meticulously sorted, and a combination of destemmed and whole-cluster fermentation was employed. To amplify the wine’s complexity, both open and closed-top fermentation tanks were used, along with natural and cultured yeast strains. Following primary fermentation, the grapes were gently pressed and racked into barrel for 11 months. A mixture of French and Hungarian oak barrels was used, at a modest rate of 10% new oak.

This wine was made (or labelled really) so that top restaurants could pour a Pinot by the glass that would satisfy discriminating customers but also be reasonably priced.

No tricks here: just high-quality fruit, high-quality winemaking and a price you never see for Pinots like this.
